ZIDANE, A 21ST CENTURY PORTRAIT (Zidane, un portrait du 21e siècle)

For ZIDANE,  A  21ST  CENTURY  PORTRAIT  Parreno  and  Gordon  filmed  the  iconic  football  player Zinédine Zidane over the entire ninety minutes of a single football match, which took  place  in  2005.  The  work  constitutes  material  from  17  separate,  synchronized  cameras to create a real-time portrait of Zidane.  The movie represents a revolutionary, novel  form  of  portraiture  in  film,  conceived  in  relation  to  the  great  lineage  of  courtly  portraits of Francisco de Goya and Diego Velázquez as well as Andy Warhol’s real-time cinematographic portraits.
