Der Film ist der Auftakt einer fünfteiligen Filmreihe zur Ausstellung.

Der Film GREGORY CREWDSON: BRIEF ENCOUNTERS ist ein intimes Porträt des gefeierten Photographen Gregory Crewdson (*1962 in New York City). Regisseur Ben Shapiro begleitete Crewdson und sein Studio über zehn Jahre und kam ihm dabei so nahe wie nie ein Filmemacher zuvor. Er schuf ein brillantes Porträt des amerikanischen Künstlers. Der Film ist voller faszinierender Bilder und verblüffender Einblicke in Crewdsons Foto-Großproduktionen, die vielen Filmproduktionen Konkurrenz machen. Das brillante Porträt des amerikanischen Künstlers gibt eine nie dagewesene Perspektive auf Gregory Crewdsons künstlerischen Prozess und seine komponierten Photographien, die von Crewdsons eigenen Träumen ebenso wie von den Welten von Alfred Hitchcock und David Lynch oder Bildern von Edward Hopper inspiriert sind.

The film Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters is an intimate portrait of the acclaimed photographer Gregory Crewdson (born 1962, New York City, USA). Thanks to unprecedented access to Crewdson and his studio over the course of ten years, director Ben Shapiro created a brilliant documentary of the American artist. The film is full of fascinating images and mesmerizing insights into Crewdson’s large-scale productions that rival many feature film productions. Gregory Crewdson’s artistic process is shown as never seen before providing an unparalleled perspective on the artist’s meticulously composed photographs that are inspired by Crewdson’s own dreams and fantasies as much as the worlds of Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch or Edward Hopper.
